Why Big Lies Work Insidiously Well in American Politics

-

The public is easily distracted by trying to disprove the big lies emanating from Trump and the right wing media. The real point is the message conveyed by these lies and the agendas they insidiously seek to promote and enable. Also: big lies have the media advantage of gaining further coverage by being attacked as false, so they are two-fers.

For example: the claim that Trump won the election. Subtexts: attacking the established powers that rig elections; delegitimizing Biden; turning 2024 into a revenge election; empowering Republican state legislatures to overturn elections; laying the groundwork for voter (particularly Black voters) suppression, masquerading as reform.

That Obama was born in Africa. Subtexts: nativism, exclusion of migrants, delegitimizing Obama, exposing Fake Media.

That Antifa infiltrated the siege of the Capitol. Subtexts: anti BLM and anti Black; double standards by liberal media in excusing the Leftist protests; fomenting a sense of sinister cabals; keeping “Seattle” and “Portland” alive as bogey-cities.

  1. Now that we are politically clear of all those Trump big lies and exaggerations , we can get back to normal democratic political fibs that are actually misconceptions ………….
