President Trump never misses an opportunity to boast that the America under him is now the hottest country in the world.
America is terribly hot, ICE-Y hot, as thousands of Trump’s armed and masked ICE agents descend upon American cities, snatching people from their work or homes or cars, dragging them or pinning them on the ground, releasing tear gas and pepper sprays on them, injuring them, or killing them, as they did Renee Nicole Good, regardless of their citizenship status.
To crush the anti-ICE protests in Minneapolis, Trump threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act, ready to send in 1,500 troops. His Justice Department is also investigating Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey for their alleged conspiracy to impede ICE. It is hotly ironic that Trump offered to help Iranian protestors against their government while he will not tolerate his own compatriots protesting ICE terror, when free speech and free assembly are Americans’ rights. It is also offensively hypocritical that Trump and ilk call Renee Nicole Good a domestic terrorist while touting violent Jan. 6 rioters as peaceful patriots.
America is awfully hot as Trump is in hot pursuit of a United States as a 21st century imperial power. Since his second inauguration, Trump has threatened the territorial integrity of Canada, the sovereignty of Panama Canal, attacked and decapitated Venezuela, warned Mexico, Cuba, Columbia, etc.
The most inflammatory Trumpism is his crazy fixation on Greenland. Anything less than U.S. control of Greenland would be unacceptable to him, he says as he announced new tariffs on Demark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Britain, the Netherlands, and Finland for rebuking his demands.
He promises to inflict more tariffs on them until a “deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland,” as the New York Times reported. It is hard to believe we are living in 2025 and not the 19th century, and under a president, not a king. It is also jarring to see Europeans holding signs reading “Yankee, Go Home,” or “Make America Go Away.”
America is literally hot because Trump champions climate warming and dirty fossil fuels as he exclaims “drill, baby, drill.” He touts American dominance in oil, natural gas and “beautiful, clean coal,” even as he steals Venezuelan oil. With an aversion to green energy, Trump rolled back regulations on power plants, oil and gas, mercury and air toxics, etc. He also eliminated what he called the “EV mandate” to level the playing field for gasoline-powered automobiles.
His biggest dislike is wind power, which he said was killing birds and is expensive. In fact, wind power is now half as expensive as natural gas, while fossil fuels damage the environment and endanger birds more. While oil and gas drilling permits increased in the past year, the Trump administration recently suspended five large-scale offshore wind projects along the East Coast on national security pretext.
With renewable energy prices dropping around the world, led by China, Trump’s backward energy policy has made American electricity more costly, rising from 15.94 cents per kilowatt-hour last January to 17.98 cents in October, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
America is regrettably hot because the Trump administration in busy burning America’s bridges with the world, with gambits such as torching the global trading system with tariff wars against all countries, humiliating and attacking America’s NATO allies, withdrawing the U.S. from more than sixty international organizations on population, climate, labor, migration, etc., and ruining the good will the U.S. has built over generations with its international aid programs, and turning tourists, students, and admirers of America away with draconian visa and immigration policies.
Finally, America is singularly hot as the country is seared day in and day out by the vile language and abhorrent acts coming out of the White House, formerly the most respected office of the land. From insulting his predecessor Joe Biden with a picture of an autopen instead of a portrait, to opening a criminal investigation of Fed Chair Jerome Powel, from calling female journalists stupid and piggy to giving a middle finger to a worker protestor in Detroit, Trump is making America hot alright. Hot and angry.
